Laptops typically lack WAN ports and instead have a standard Ethernet connection. If it was a WAN port, it would only work with a direct phone cable link, which isn't compatible with regular Ethernet setups.

Thunderbolt isn't typically used for Ethernet connections; you'd need a different port type. You can purchase an adapter to convert Thunderbolt to standard Ethernet.
