It might still be the cable, it could show at 1gbit but struggle to handle it. Consider using a different cable or test if unplugging and reconnecting restores it to 1 gigabit. I remember something about an old board and the Ethernet controller software interfering. There seems to be a pattern with the PC going to sleep and then freezing at 100mbit. You might want to remove the QOS/priority driver software and just use the basic driver. Also, try disabling wake on LAN.
Review the Killer control panel's features for "optimization" settings. It seems their system behaves unexpectedly without the intended options, so sticking to the original manufacturer drivers might be the best approach.
2.5Gb is a high-speed setting many devices struggle with. Trying to force it to 1Gb is my top option. But this only matters if you're linking straight from your PC to the modem.
