Ethernet connection via coaxial cable
New place in moving to has coax through the walls, but no Ethernet wiring. I've seen that there's adapters for an Ethernet setup over this wiring, but is it worth the premium for the adapters? The living room is down a hallway from the office, where I'll have the modem and router set up, so I'm looking for alternatives to stringing cat cables down the hall
I’m facing the same issue too! It could be worth it since slower connections might work just fine with Ethernet. Edited March 18, 2019 by star_pilot475
Hey, I feel the same! I was hoping for Verizon Fios but it’s not available. The shared network really slows things down—especially when everyone is online. At around 6 p.m., my connection drops to about 6 Mbps.
It probably comes down to your preferred schedule for using the internet or playing games. If everyone else is at home, consider going for the solo 25.
Moca 2.0 adapters support speeds ranging from 400 Mbps to 800 Mbps half duplex. This makes them a good investment. The limitation is that only 16 Moca devices can be connected on a network, so you may need additional switches in areas with many machines. If you're using the same wiring as your cable provider, a filter on the main line is required, but performance should be satisfactory based on current information.
Fortunately, we'll just need 75 to 150 downloads, which is fine. With only two PCs—one PS4 and one Xbox in the house—that shouldn't cause any issues. Thanks!
