I have a lengthy Ethernet connection stretching about 15 meters from the basement router to the upstairs PC through the exterior of the house. The plug on the PC side of that cable was damaged, so I replaced it myself, keeping the color matching the router end (oriented upward, clipped on the opposite side and left to right: WO, O, WB, B, WG, G, WBr, Br). Prior to swapping the connector, my speeds were well above expectations—over 200 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up. Now the link drops intermittently several times each minute, with only 1 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up. The unusual aspect is that using the same Ethernet cable on my laptop gives me 70 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up. In contrast, a different cable in my PC or laptop delivers the full 200+ Mbps down and 12 Mbps up. I’m trying to figure out what changed. If the cable was broken, wouldn’t the performance be consistent across all devices using it? If the router was the issue, the other cables should also show the same sluggish speed. If the problem lies with my PCs, then the other cables should too—but they aren’t. Please advise. I’m not a networking specialist. P.S. (I didn’t install the external Ethernet cable myself).

It seems like a poor choice of connector. If it worked before, it likely won't now. Just add a fresh variable and test again.

Thank you for your responses. I've now removed the connectors at both ends and adjusted the cable sequence as suggested by @Dujith Yet. The cable initially failed on my PC but worked in my laptop. I then tried a different Ethernet cable, which also showed signs of wear. From this, it seems my motherboard's Ethernet port might be damaged, causing slow performance and frequent drops. The laptop only reaches 100 Mbps due to the integrated network driver limitations. I may need to return the motherboard or purchase a PCIe adapter.
