It depends on how your devices are set up. Using Ethernet doesn’t block Wi-Fi; they can coexist on the same network. Just make sure your router handles multiple connections properly.

I also connected my Pointer to a Cat 6 Ethernet while the rest of the home, including the wife's iMac, son's Xbox, was linked to Wi-Fi.

The cable you're using is either from the modem or the router.

I use a router at home and a Netgear Nighthawk for the Wi-Fi. My computer connects via Cat 6 to the Nighthawk, which has two Ethernet ports—one linking to the router and another to my PC. The wife’s iMac joins the network through a Cat 6 cable from her area, and my son uses a similar connection in his setup. For extra reliability, my computer also supports a Wi-Fi antenna, allowing me to switch between wired and wireless depending on what I need. The Netgear network is part of a mesh system; here’s how it’s configured in my house. It functions well for me, and I hope it does for you too. https://www.netgear.com/home/wifi/mesh/mk62-3/
