Ethernet adapter... USB port?
Ethernet adapter... USB port?
I purchased a laptop without an Ethernet port, but I need to understand the distinction between a TB3 and a USB 3.0/1 adapter.
Both connections can handle gigabit Ethernet speeds. The main differences come from individual chipset capabilities regarding latency, available features, and driver support. If you require a 10 Gbps adapter, TB3 will likely be the sole choice, though it may be quite costly. For everyday tasks, opting for the most affordable option is usually best.
With gigabit speeds, the actual data rates are similar, but USB 3.0/3.1 is a better choice because it supports the TB port when using the matching connector.
