Hi everyone, I have a query about setting up remote desktop connections. Recently began a new position and can't connect from my gaming PC to the work laptop. Previously, I linked my laptop to their VPN and started a remote session from my own machine—it worked smoothly with my usual setup. Now, at this company, I can only make a basic connection but fail when trying to log in at the welcome screen. They say I need to join the remote desktop users group. IT claims remote access from another PC isn't permitted. I'm not an IT or security specialist, so my main concern is understanding why this is happening. Additionally, I'm wondering if alternatives like Mouse without Borders won't work since my laptop doesn't respond on my home network. I also don't want to use a KVM because I'm unsure how it would impact my gaming performance when not working. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

The discussion concludes here; we are unable to help circumvent organizational security rules (which allow us to avoid non-company devices from accessing their premises).

Here’s a straightforward version of that:
Essentially, losing a job is simple. Just avoid going any further.

Think about what you need from your KVM setup and explore options that fit your workflow.

Is there a valid reason for connecting to your work laptop remotely from your personal computer at home? The company’s IT team states remote desktop access isn’t permitted, which means this situation has reached its conclusion.

You can utilize two monitors alongside the laptop display.

Could you try connecting the monitors directly to the laptop? Wouldn't it be more cost-effective to buy additional monitors only when necessary?

Sure, grab it. They’re super affordable. I usually take one with me when I bring my laptop home. It’s a single-input model and pairs well with one monitor setup—perfect for your setup. Keep it under $30.

Looking for a way to quickly access another post instead of setting up multiple monitors?
