The $10,000 probably covered software and vendor support within a contract spanning a specific period, usually several years. Eventually, you'll realize that for IT, certain tasks simply require external expertise unless you're a large company with enough specialized staff. Could you disable all the necessary services?

The $10k cost covered only the server since they already possess the software and tech support is free. This is why my company remains strong—they handle company computer maintenance, and we prefer not to interfere with Active Directory unless absolutely necessary. Data servers don’t require it. I had to adjust certain settings in specific subtrees. Each reference I found suggested simply navigating to the main tree, which was straightforward. However, needing to perform tasks outside their capabilities was quite frustrating.

The system functioned properly with the software. Tech support options vary; free support usually offers limited assistance unless already included in the product cost. Active Directory is useful but only if applied correctly. If the server hosts just this medical software without additional services, AD may not be necessary. Tech assistance can be provided remotely via tools like Teamviewer or RDP, and they may arrange a technician visit if required. Response times for issues can differ significantly.

Everything is functioning smoothly on the system. It's software commonly used by many doctor offices, allowing remote support and quick resolution of issues within minutes of a request. For some applications and with numerous users, AD works well, though for businesses lacking internal IT support it can be challenging. With eight years in PC repair shops, I've always found it to be my least preferred task.
