Hi,
I was considering purchasing a new laptop with a budget not exceeding 1000 euros. My existing machine is eight years old, an i5 dual-core processor with 2450MHz (likely Intel HD graphics), and it’s time for an upgrade. As a student, I don’t necessarily need the absolute top-tier specs—just something decent enough for my needs. My current laptop only supports integrated graphics, and for my next one, I’d prefer dedicated graphics to enjoy games like World of Warcraft occasionally. My old machine barely handled it at low settings. The laptop I’m thinking about has a standard display (no 144 Hz), so I probably don’t mind framerate below 60. Could you advise if this model is suitable for playing WoW at high settings around 60 FPS without stutter? I’m not very familiar with laptops, as you might see in this discussion.

Please don’t be too hard on me :-P. I can’t afford an i7 or GTX 1080 setup, and a dedicated gaming PC isn’t really feasible because I also need good battery life for presentations.

Thanks a lot,
Ben

It would be quicker than my laptop, and I can run FFXIV at 1080p with 60fps on modest settings. I don't use WoW much, but I remember it worked fine on less powerful systems than FFXIV.

It would work well in WoW, right? I might have some trouble with raids, though, but any system can face that problem, hehe.

The suggested system needs an i7-4770 and a Nvidia GTX 960. It seems the 1050Ti would be preferable over the GTX960 for WoW. The benchmark shows around 60 fps at maximum settings, though performance may drop in real scenarios like raid play. A lower speed is acceptable. Regarding the CPU, the information suggests using only one core, and the i7-4770 offers a higher base clock than the i5-8300H. It's unclear if the turbo speed will be effective in games, especially considering potential limitations from the processor's base speed.

What are your thoughts on the CPU compared to the recommended i7 4770?

The i7 4770 will offer only slight improvement. I believe you should maintain reasonable settings for the build to avoid problems. As mentioned before, you might encounter some difficulties in a heavy raid scenario. However, few builds of that power level would struggle under such conditions. I know a friend who built a budget setup with a G4560, 8gb (dual 4gb at 2400MHz), and 1050 ti. He hasn’t faced any issues unless he encounters extremely demanding situations where there’s a slight stutter, but it doesn’t make the game unplayable.
