In the past week or so, my computer has begun crashing while playing games regularly, often displaying a blue screen. This issue started after some major changes to my hardware setup, though it has become more frequent and severe. Sometimes it runs for an hour, other times only a few minutes, and sometimes it restarts to the desktop during loading. These problems occur with any game I play. All error messages mention the device hanging; I’ve checked the drivers. I’ve installed every available driver—both new and older versions (currently 512.95)—and even used DDU. My configuration includes a PCI-E riser cable and an extra one, which also work similarly. GPU is connected directly to the motherboard, eliminating riser complications. I’ve tried running games without any background applications (MSI, FanControl, Logitech, etc.), but the same issues persist. Last week I decided to replace my 3700x with a 5800x and updated my BIOS to version 3.70 to support the new CPU. After several unstable launches, it stabilized, though GPU problems remained. I’m planning to start over with fresh installations and see how it goes, but it’s frustrating—could it be the GPU? Any suggestions or alternatives would be appreciated. This is really upsetting."

Exactly how it failed wasn't clear—were there only game issues or a full system failure? Did your computer lock up, freeze, or restart unexpectedly? Also, did you recall the error codes from the BSODs?

I discovered the issue last night. Turns out the problem was with the riser cables, even though early tests showed games crashing when plugged directly into the motherboard. The BSODs were mostly about display problems, and only a couple of times it blue-screened. Usually the game would just stop. I ran a driver reset and reinstalled Windows 10, which likely helped overall. Now that I’ve installed a new riser, it works perfectly. The issue is with my Thermaltake P3, which I’m mounting on the wall. I need a riser because the GPU doesn’t fit with my AIO. I’ve ordered a replacement. I don’t mind PCIE 4.0 since it doesn’t really affect performance much; I just need it to secure the card and radiator in the case. Thanks for your help!
