Error with authui.dll file.
I was going through instructions to modify my Windows 7 lock screen. One part involved renaming the authui.dll file in C/Windows/System32. I got distracted and didn<|pad|> page by page, so I didn’t update it with the new theme file. I shut down my laptop before finishing. Now instead of the lock screen, I see a blank screen with no cursor. I tried typing my password in just in case it would boot me to the desktop, but it didn’t. I panicked—please help! Thanks. * *** ** * * * SOLVED * * * * ** * * * * * * SOLVED! I connected my laptop to the desktop and renamed the file back. It’s working now *phew* ***
Consider pressing Esc or F8 when the system boots. This usually opens a safe boot menu with an option to restore the PC to its last known good state. Let me know if you need more assistance.
I used F8 to select the last known good configuration, yet it remained unchanged. The screen stayed blank with no cursor.
Ah good idea mate. Glad that you got it sorted. There is a lesson to be learnt out of all this isn't there, and I bet you know what it is too?
