Good morning everyone, I just got a new SSD to swap in for my failing laptop hard drive, but in doing so I accidentally messed up my LAN port. Since then, internet access has been spotty—websites load no matter which browser or network I use, and even with the TP-LINK T2U adapter it still doesn’t work. I also tried using a USB Wi-Fi adapter, but that didn’t help either. My laptop is a Lenovo Y50-70 with Intel AC 3160, and I’m using a TP-LINK T2U port. I’ve changed my DNS settings to Google’s, but nothing has improved. I ran a scan with Malwarebytes and Spybot, but no major threats were found.

Not 100% sure but if the pins are touching each other then it might cause this issue as windows thinks it has a new connection.. but then doesnt. At least check if they are not doing this.

I damaged the plastic component that secures the cable. I plan to snap a photo later today. Edit: disabling the LAN might resolve the problem if that’s the cause.

This doesn't affect the LAN port, but some cables can slip out easily if you use certain connectors. It's better to get a fresh one—they're quite affordable.

I didn’t attempt to check if the cable stayed secure, but here’s what it appears to look like.

You can turn off the adapter in Windows or UEFI settings.

I just attempted to turn off the LAN adapter temporarily, but the issue returned shortly after. Websites like Facebook, YouTube, and Reddit functioned normally, yet visiting a Twitch channel or opening a link from Facebook failed to load as before. I also tried disabling all devices except my TP-LINK adapter, but the problem persisted.

It doesn’t seem the LAN cable is the problem, but it’s wise to check the damaged plug. Are you using a USB adapter because your laptop already supports built-in Wi-Fi?

I tested to check if it was my onboard wireless adapter, otherwise I don’t use it.
