Red Dead Redemption 2 ran smoothly until the moment I tried to launch it, then an error appeared. My GPU is a 4090, and I haven’t seen this issue before in any other game.

I'm aware of a problem with AMD RDNA2 cards when using SAM/reBAR and running games via Vulkan. The game experiences memory leaks, leading to VRAM exhaustion and crashes with the same error message. This issue occurred on both Linux and Windows systems. While it's uncertain if NVIDIA faces the same problem, you might try switching to DX12 mode instead of Vulkan for smoother performance. If the error appears immediately after launching, adjusting the configuration file to modify the API settings could help resolve it.

Actually, dx12 isn't the one causing issues for you.

Confirm your GPU is an RTX 4090? You might need 24GB of VRAM, possibly due to a memory issue or faulty driver.

It's a problem that might occur, but it doesn't necessarily mean the GPU isn't functioning properly. In any case, I updated my driver and reinstalled a fresh one, and it resolved the issue temporarily at least.

I simply skipped and closed the window. It’s a really silly mistake—like expecting a 4090 to play games in fullscreen on DX12, or at least run them without crashing, but windowed fullscreen works just okay.

It seems the issue relates to frame rates and overall quality. Running in a standard mode rather than exclusive full screen helps. I'm glad the problem is resolved. Regarding windowed full screen in games that don't boot, you can adjust settings via Nvidia Control or apply 3D application rules.

Fullscreen affects performance by reducing frames or quality. I tested both settings and didn’t notice any change. All games started without issues, but some would occasionally crash.

Avoid windowed full screen which can lower quality and cause performance issues. Use full screen for sharper, more consistent images. Stable performance comes with exclusive full screen on matching monitors. The Google button helps; it’s worth using. Some games now only offer windowed mode, but this isn’t always noticeable at high refresh rates. Screen issues like tears and microstutters are a real concern for you.
