I recently upgraded my PC with an RTX 3080 and a Ryzen 9 5900X. At first it worked well, but soon I noticed issues in certain games—screen cuts out, keyboard and mouse lights fade, and the CPU error light appears on the motherboard. These problems mostly occur in GTA V (after about five minutes), as well as in Red Dead 2 and Doom Eternal, though less often (around half an hour into gameplay). I've tried several fixes: updated drivers manually, checked CPU and GPU settings, disabled Precision Boost Overdrive, replaced the power supply thinking it was the cause, swapped the GPU to rule it out, and even started a service request with AMD. I'm weighing whether to return it via Amazon or use the RMA process. Any suggestions for troubleshooting or possible causes?

Specs: Ryzen 9 5900X (previously Ryzen 5 3600X), Corsair H100i Elite Capellix, Gigabyte RTX 3080 OC, MSI B450 Tomahawk, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 850W, Corsair RM850X, M.2 SSD, 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 2TB Samsung SATA SSD.

Have you attempted to reinstall the old CPU and monitored the situation over a few days or weeks to determine if the issues persist or improve? This would serve as a basic verification step to confirm the correct component. Additionally, consider removing 32GB of RAM and running it at 2x16 MHz for testing.

It seems like this might relate to a memory problem. The setup of your BIOS using DOCP could be the cause. Check the memory by visiting the provided link.

Ran memtest86 with no issues detected. What should I do next? AMD recommends submitting dxdiag, msinfo32 and a Windows Event Log Report. This problem appeared immediately after installing the new hardware; it wasn’t present before. You might want to reinstall the old CPU to confirm if it’s the cause.

It might be simplest to replace the old CPU. Additionally, consider whether a motherboard problem is involved—have you looked for BIOS updates that could fix your issues or provide official support for your processor?

Check the current BIOS settings, adjust to 100% at 60°C.

No one blamed the right thing here—it was an iCue problem. The app displayed an error in Windows Event Viewer, and after uninstalling it, AMD support confirmed the issue. Since then I haven’t seen any crashes (hopefully). It’s a shame because most of my parts are Corsair, but if that’s what it takes, I’m fine.

Using nearly identical PSUs and iCue software isn't recommended unless you also have additional components like rainbow fans, cards, etc. Ensure the Corsair iCue service isn't active. Good luck with your setup!
