Error occurs upon system boot. Crash reported immediately after startup.
Hello, I hope everyone is well today. Over the past week, I've faced BSOD crashes—sometimes when launching a game from Steam, other times after logging in. They always ended with a CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error. When I checked Task Manager on my second monitor, everything seemed normal except for unusually high disk usage. After loading startup apps, the system would crash, and sometimes right at the login screen. I've also noticed slower load times, which is making it harder to figure out what's wrong. I tried several troubleshooting steps: disabled startup apps, ran chkdsk, sfc, and DISM, booted into safe mode (CTFmon.exe kept appearing), updated chipset drivers, reinstalled Windows via installation media, and checked the BIOS settings. Occasionally, I'd be lucky and experience no crashes or smooth gameplay. I'm hoping these efforts give me some clarity and help resolve the issue. My parts are listed in my signature. Thanks for your time.
No additional details from the event viewer near the crash times.
I mentioned it at the start of the crashes, showing only critical errors and a shutdown notice. Perhaps you're not very experienced with Event Viewer.
Visit C:\Windows\Minidump to see if any minidump files exist. If present, return to the Windows directory and transfer the entire Minidump folder to the Downloads folder (use your desktop if needed). Compress the copied folder and include it in a post. Please adhere strictly to instructions since Windows doesn't allow file manipulation there.
This folder was made before the Windows reinstall, yet no dump folder appears here. Minidump.zip
This incident occurred on October 8th due to BattlEye. Frequent anticheats trigger BSODs. The pairing of Critical_Process_Died and missing dump files suggests a storage issue. If you have multiple drives, check Disk Management for the Page File size under each partition. Since the crash indicates the C: drive is affected, it likely covers all areas. Relocating the page file to another drive might resolve the problem, as this process relies on the page file for writing dumps. Moving it could restore functionality, but with Critical Process Died it often just displays a Windows process.
You can also execute chkdsk on C: or drive the game runs, on C: it will handle it after a restart since it's the system drive.
It makes sense now. I’d remove Battleye and check which game installed it. Look up “battleye CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED” for possible fixes, since it seems to safeguard games against interference. Also, try uninstalling both the software and the game, then reinstall drivers before trying again.
