I’m stuck trying to link my new SSD to drive letter E: because it seems E: isn’t available. I switched from C:, D:, F:, G: to E: a few years ago, but now it won’t work. After some troubleshooting, DiskPart told me the volume couldn’t be assigned to E:. I looked in Disk Management and Registry, found an entry for “E:” but no active assignment. The Registry had a value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE that pointed to “DosDevices\E:”, which is confusing. I considered removing that entry, but I’m not sure if that would fix it. I’m frustrated and don’t want to risk messing things up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Launch the computer, select View from the toolbar and enable Hidden Items. Any items displaying 'E' will appear. Are there any card readers installed? It's likely one of them is using it. Also, E might already be assigned to a USB device, which would mean Windows reserves it.

I didn't expect to find the CD-Drive again after using it for a BBQ a while ago. I'm not sure how to take it out. The eject command gave an error message. I need to learn more about these issues.

Launch Device Manager, display hidden devices. Review DVD/CD-ROM units there. Eliminate any worn-out ones. Perform the same with Disk Drives.

Launch the command prompt with administrative privileges, input "diskpart," press Enter. Then enter "automount scrub," press Enter again. Proceed to type "exit" and hit Enter. Restart your computer.

They don't show any DVD or CD-ROM options. Windows should have a clean, simple version without extra features. I'll give it a shot and update you.

The issue persists. The CD Drive (ESmile remains visible in Explorer even after opening. Are there other options you could explore?

Consider an alternative method: launch an admin command prompt, execute "mountvol /R", and then restart the system. This action may also delete certain drive letters, but it won't impact the C drive, allowing you to reallocate other drives as required.

You checked the Device Manager option, selected View, and confirmed Disabled Devices before searching for the CD Drive.

The option to display disabled devices isn't available in the View dropdown. There are five sorting choices, a hidden devices toggle, and UI customization settings. If you were referring to the hidden devices checkbox, I confirmed it was off before checking further. No other categories appear, even for CD drives.

You have four drives total—two SSDs and two HDDs—and nothing else is listed.
