After attempting the latest touchpad driver, an error keeps occurring regardless of the Windows version you use. Could there be a solution to avoid or resolve this issue? The device in question is a HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0166TU, and you're currently using a specific driver.

Looking for this laptop often shows two versions of the same driver—1.6mb and 2.1mb. Have you tested both? If your system isn’t Windows 10, the driver you selected is likely for Windows 11. You can find more details here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/laptops

I've tested both options and even the Windows 10 versions on my laptop, but they all fail at that point.

the setup isn't showing any unknown devices, but when you unplug your external mouse, the folder disappears completely. It also appears that all devices only appear after installing HP drivers. I checked the files and found a line of code used to identify the device version. You might want to modify that section to force an installation. Let me know if you'd like help with that.

As far i know there is no proper way to edit hp setups. Maybe someone could reverse engineer it But if pointer section is empty and no unkown device is shown. I don't think tis missing driver. By any chance did you accidently disable touchpad in bios ? Or maybe bios is funny. You can try updating bios as well. Still no dice then backup your data and if it has warranty send it there ! If there is no warranty and you belive in your self and take apart your device. Try replugging touchpad. Also you can try a ready to boot linux off a flash drive with updated drivers in it. See if it works there.

The warranty ended some time ago, and I've disassembled it twice already before you brought up these issues. The BIOS offers very limited choices, so I couldn’t have turned it off either—I thought that was the reason. It just stopped functioning one day, and since drivers can’t be installed in the past, I guess it’s because of that. I might need a new touchpad if the drivers don’t work. I’ve also messaged HP, but their support seems pretty unreliable.

You might be able to pull out the .inf files from the package and set them up for installation manually.
