Hello tech experts, I’m experiencing a blue screen issue that pops up unexpectedly. The message reads: “system service exception (netio.sys).” After restarting, everything works normally. The problem seems to occur randomly, especially when the system isn’t under heavy use. My machine ran smoothly at 4.6GHz until I installed the recent Windows 8.1 update. I’m really anxious because I don’t understand how to resolve this and prevent future occurrences. My WhoCrashed report states: On Sat 21/03/2015 18:47:25 GMT your computer crashed. Crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\032115-8765-01.dmp This likely relates to the module netio.sys (NETIO+0x12A17). Bugcheck code: 0x3B … Error: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\netio.sys. Product: Microsoft Windows. Company: Microsoft Corp. Description: Network I/O Subsystem Bug check. This suggests a problem during a code transition from regular to privileged mode, probably due to a driver issue rather than hardware faults. The crash happened in a standard Microsoft component. It’s possible another driver on your system is the culprit. On the same date and time, a memory dump was recorded: C:\WINDOWS\memory.dmp. This may point to nfc_driver.sys (NFC_Driver+0x46E4). Bugcheck code: 0x3B … Error: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\nfc_driver.sys. Product: Network Flow Control SDK Titan ARC Corp. Description: Network Flow Control SDK WFP Driver (WPP). Bugcheck suggests a driver-related exception during privileged transitions. It’s recommended you check for updates on nfc_driver.sys (Network Flow Control SDK WFP Driver (WPP), Titan ARC Corp.). Search results mention this as the probable cause. Thank you for your assistance in resolving this advanced issue.

I experienced the same problem again. I also saw steam stop downloading on its own, with BSODs appearing before it would resume. Updated: I might have found a fix. I turned off NetBIOS over TCP/IP in the network adapter settings > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties > Advanced > WINS tab. Steam downloads now work properly and no longer triggers BSODs.
