I'm a gamer with a desktop i7700k, 16GB DDR4 4GB RAM, Z270 gaming pro carbon motherboard. I play League of Legends, Valve Index VR games, and many other titles. In the past I've faced faulty power supplies, overheating CPUs, poor motherboards, loose 4-pin connections, and similar issues. I recognize what a power cut looks like—it's usually power-related. Over the past year I've experienced random restarts and freezes, now consistently triggering clock watchdog errors. They appear whenever I open a program—whether it's Mozilla, a game lobby, or a character dying and respawning. It often happens after using a VR headset for a while, then restarting, and it leads to a blue screen or abrupt shutdown. It sometimes restarts after a reboot, but often it reboots in the middle of one. I prefer to restart after opening a browser, but I've tried reinstalling everything and updating drivers. Recently reformatting Windows 10 seems to have resolved the freezing restarts, though I still used an old Windows 10 key after wiping partitions. There are no temperature problems, I've replaced RAM and swapped slots, but the crashes haven't changed. I'm at my limit and considering selling the PC for a quick fix. My hardware is solid, but I really want to fix it. Anyone with advice would be deeply appreciated. I don’t have the budget or time for new parts, so I’m thinking about getting a new SSD and OS. What do you think?
I should add a few more points. It wasn't overclocked or with a new BIOS, and it lets me play for up to three hours without issues. However, if I try to browse the internet or use anything other than one program, it complains. I'm also experiencing dust buildup on my system.
