Error: High CPU usage isn't detected via Windows Remote Desktop connection.
Hello! A bit of background is probably necessary: I've got an Ubuntu VM running in Windows 7 on a computer attached to my network. When I log into the computer via Remote Desktop from my main computer (also Windows 7), the CPU usage drops to 0% when previously it was around 50-60%. I am aware that people may ask why I'm complaining, since 0% CPU usage might be perceived as a good thing, so just know that I'm not, however I just want to know why. I doubt anyone else will have either a) the same odd setup, or b) noticed this behaviour, but I'm willing to ask. EDIT: I suppose a better question would be: If the computer is capable of running the VM at near 0% CPU usage when I'm connected with remote desktop, why is the CPU usage so high when I'm not connected with remote desktop?
The Ubuntu VM consumes 50-60% of the CPU even without remote desktop connections. Logging in via RDP significantly reduces CPU usage to almost zero. This behavior is quite confusing. Additionally, this machine has been running continuously for about 180 days, which feels unusually long.
It's curious that I can still operate the VM normally via RDP. I moved the VM from Virtualbox to VMware Workstation and it behaves identically. EDIT: Notably, CPU usage returns to 50-60% when RDP is minimized or not active. This appears only when viewing the remote session.
