Error encountered with Prime95 because of insufficient memory.
Hey there, I have an issue with my latest setup. The build fails the small FFT test using Prime95 when I set the RAM to 3600 MHz or higher, regardless of voltage. I also tried 1.40V but didn’t get any results. The issue seems to be that the RAM should run at 4000 MHz, but it’s not working as expected. I’ve adjusted voltage, disabled XMP, changed timings, and only lowered the frequency to a max of 3400 MHz, which allowed Prime95 to pass for over an hour. At 2667 MHz, the CPU still passed for more than an hour even when undervolted to 1.20V. I managed to rule out a CPU problem because at the lowest frequency (2667 MHz), it passed Prime95 for over an hour as well. Cinebench 20 is running smoothly at all speeds and multiple times. My parts include a Ryzen 3900X, Mobo Gigabyte Aorus X570, Crucial Ballistix Max RGB 4000 MHz CPU, Mugen5 cooler, TUF RGB case, and ITX A1. I read somewhere that using a Vcore offset of +100 mV might help, or perhaps adjusting the SOC voltage to offset mode could resolve it. I’m not very familiar with Gigabyte BIOS settings, so I’m unsure how to proceed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated—I’m really frustrated and can’t use my new build safely.
It seems Prime95 isn't functioning properly, while Cinebench 20 operates smoothly across all speeds repeatedly. A simple solution exists. Avoid using Prime95.
Test size should stay within CPU caches without overloading memory. It seems surprising that adjusting RAM settings causes it to fail. This suggests RAM speed is tied to both fabric limits and cache performance. Since the CPU officially supports up to 3200 MHz, you might be exceeding its core speed while RAM operates faster. I don’t know the exact speeds of each component, but you could test running IF at 1600 MHz (which is 3200) with a higher async setting like 3600 or 4000. See if that resolves the issue.
i had a lot of headache but was able to set the ram at 3600 at decent (i think) timings. At first i was playing with IF and memclock, than i tried rising the voltage and find one that let me complete multiple cinebench20 tests. Still not able to complete prime95... I've a 6514 score in cinebench20, but i don't know if there's something wrong, do you see something wrong in this data
The issue was worsening, I couldn't run memtest due to multiple errors at any clock and timing. Cinebench would crash every time. I also tried a single stick setup but it didn’t help. Eventually, I switched to an Intel 7820x and managed to set the clock to 3600 instead of 4000. For the Ryzen build, I used a Corsair Dominator Platinum 3000mhz at 3200, which seems to work now. (Update) Recently, there’s another crash—this time it locks the settings to 2100. I checked the crucial page and realized my memory isn’t compatible with my motherboard X570.
