Your 10980XE showing up as a 7980X in CPU-Z isn't necessarily a problem. It could be due to driver settings or display calibration. Regarding the dynamic clock ranging from 3.8 to 4.6 with all sets at 0 and a clock value of 4.6, it might relate to BIOS settings or hardware configuration—check BIOS options for clock scaling or memory timings.

The CPU-Z Specification section displays data straight from the processor. I've never noticed inaccurate details there. The label at the top can be incorrect; disregard it. What does this imply? The page about Intel Core i9 Extreme Edition i9-10980XE explains that by default, Intel adjusts the maximum clock speed according to active cores. With all cores running, the i9-10980XE caps at 3.8 GHz. To exceed this limit, you must manually overclock it. Once fully configured, an overclocked model will generate significant heat, requiring cooling solutions like water cooling to prevent overheating and thermal throttling.

Yes, I'm an OC for 4.8 on preferred cores, with 4.1 and other scores, and AVX2/512 both at 0.

If your processor becomes sluggish under heavy use, consider using HWiNFO to investigate the throttling causes it displays. The issue could stem from default power limits being applied.

The issue arises because the turbo boost clock is set to 4.6 instead of the base clock value. Adjust the configuration accordingly.

The correct configuration involves Intel CPUs with turbo boost for peak performance. Determine your goal; if you modify turbo settings in the BIOS, you may avoid needing XTU.

I need a starting point I want a base clock of 4.8 with turbo up to 5.0GHz, I’m sure it’s achievable with this chip. I forgot to reset the BIOS and now the CPU is stuck at 3.8GHz even with higher turbo settings.

Which CPU cooler are you employing to manage this system? The temperatures seem under control.
