Over the last two months I’ve struggled to apply the security patches because of the 0x800f081f issue. I attempted these steps:
1) sfc scan now
2) Dism restore health
3) Clear Windows update cache
4) Restart and launch Windows Update service
5) Reset network settings
6) Windows Update Assistant (stuck at 95%)
7) Windows update catalog (failed outright)
8) Reset PC (preserve my files)
9) Disabled Antivirus (Bitdefender)

Logs from a recent try showed an idle timer Id #17 null message.

Details:
7800x3d
4090
32gb ram
Samsung 990 Pro 2TB

It works well with smaller driver updates, like the Windows malware removal tool, but I’m still unable to get any security updates installed. I’ve searched everywhere online without success. The system functions normally otherwise, which is frustrating. This situation is really stressing me.

Also considered adjusting settings through Recovery options before attempting a full rollback or upgrade.

The Windows troubleshooter isn't working, and I've already attempted the steps from the two articles mentioned.

Check for any issues with failed or problematic updates in:
Update History
Reliability History/Monitor
Event Viewer
Search for errors, warnings, and informational events recorded just before or during failed updates.
= = = =
Source for Windows? Edition, Version?
For example:
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 24H2
Installed on 12/29/2024
OS build 26100.6899
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.253.0
Your output would appear differently.

If you're in 24h2, 25h2 is no longer available. My next step would likely be to download the Windows installation assistant and attempt to manually upgrade to that version. I think this might fix the issue.

It worked fine that way. Unclear why this method was chosen over a PC reset, but it seems to have functioned.
