You're facing an issue where you're logged in as an admin on both PCs using the same Windows account, connected via Ethernet, and sharing settings are consistent. Despite granting full permissions, you still receive "You do not have permission to access" errors. This suggests a potential mismatch between your user roles or permissions in Active Directory, or perhaps a misconfiguration in how the network shares are recognized. Double-check that your accounts are correctly mapped to the same domain and that no conflicting group memberships exist. Also verify that the network shares are properly configured for cross-machine access.
[IP address]Share Drive is better. Occasionally local domain names aren't set up correctly with your gateway, making IP addresses a reliable choice.
Just a note from @Los_Jackal, if the link breaks later, it’s probably because your desktop’s IP ran out and DHCP gave you a new one instead of updating the old one. To fix this, assign a static IP to your desktop so its address stays consistent even after a network reboot from an outage. This also works for sharing a local printer, turning it into a network printer.
Tried using the \\[IP address]Share Drive format in both Map Network Drive and Add Network Location, but the issue persists. The same error message appears, though now including the IP address network path. The folder shows up in This PC under Network Locations, yet opening it triggers the problem.
Have you verified advanced sharing and on button settings? Have you attempted to assign that account (PCNAME\NAME) to your share permissions? Consider creating a new folder named "share" or "disk" and test again? Are you using the account associated with the PC you’re sharing from? It’s not common to use the same login for connecting drives. Most users prefer different accounts, which usually resolves the issue. From a technical standpoint.
