Hi, I'm facing the same issue while trying to download Windows 10 using the media creation tool. The error message says "There was a problem running this tool" with code 0x80072F76 - 0x20017. Anyone else having trouble or do you have a solution? Thanks.

The issue appears linked to Windows Update problems. Are you attempting to download an ISO file for future use? You might access https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software...ndows10ISO, save the ISO through your browser, and then either upgrade or burn it instead of using the Media Creation Tool. Keep in mind: this site functions only on Linux or OSX; otherwise it redirects to the Media Creation page. If you know the specific edition, language, or version you require, I can provide a direct link to the ISO and help avoid troubles with MCT. If you intend to upgrade your system, be aware you could encounter similar challenges during that process. Have you explored any of the solutions shared here? I reviewed them briefly and they all seem reasonable options.

Thank you! I'll review those options. Installing Windows 10 from a USB and doing a complete clean install sounds straightforward.

In that scenario, I strongly suggest obtaining it as a raw ISO through the link shared earlier. The ISO from the Media Creation Tool contains an encrypted install.esd file rather than a standard install.wim format, which causes issues when using DISM or other management utilities. Although I haven’t needed to apply drivers via DISM recently (generic drivers for my z170 motherboard are now available since 1607), it remains something I monitor for future upgrades and image modifications. The simplest method is to boot a Linux VM and download the ISO there, provided you don’t have a Linux or mac machine on hand. Edit: Additionally, I recommend using Rufus to create your bootable USB drive—it’s been my preferred tool ever since I’ve dealt with mixed MBR/bios and EFI systems at home that require different boot media types.

Execute "sfc /scannow" inside an admin shell (command prompt or cmd). This utility checks and repairs missing or damaged system files. Assisted with fixing my Windows 10 update problems.

Hi Strayan Bass, if you perform a clean install, be sure to back up all your crucial files. What version of Windows are you currently using? You can open a new window by running cmd and typing: Winver Press Enter A new window appears where you’ll see the version number. As Blue Fin suggested in his previous comment, run sfc /scannow in the admin command prompt. Turn off all installed antivirus and firewall programs; they could interfere with the installation of Windows 10. I hope this assists. Kathrin

There are simpler methods than the one suggested here. Just adjust how the download site perceives your browser. One option is to install a User Agent switcher for Firefox and use an unsupported operating system so it appears as if the browser runs there. This is how I obtained .ISO on Win7. I chose Safari on macOS.

Thank you for your message. Microsoft recently released an update in late November, and it is now functioning properly.

Consider downloading an ISO file to a USB drive and then utilizing the system boot menu.
