Error encountered while attempting to set a new installation location for the Windows Store.
I can't establish a new installation folder for the Windows Store. Right now it's using the C drive, which is a smaller boot drive, so only 1-2 games from the store can be installed at once. I want to move it to one of my storage drives. If I try to change it, the system asks me to set it as the default location. But when I go through settings, I get an error about needing to make it the default. This happens even after I change it via System Settings—my error message says 0x80070005, which seems to be a permission or access issue. It matches what I see when trying to open the Windows Apps folder. Even though I have confirmed my user account has admin rights, I’m still facing problems. I’ve tried several fixes: adjusting folder permissions in Explorer, changing them in the registry, using SetACL to take ownership, and even editing the PackageRoot path. But after resetting the system, downloading games still causes a blue screen with “Unexpected_Kernal_Trap.” I’m also having trouble setting the install location through System Settings instead of the Store app. It appears that after registry changes, the system crashes when it tries to access certain files or registry entries. I’m not sure why this happens, especially since admin accounts should have full control over the Appx registry. Anyone has advice on how to fix this? Would it help if I tried a larger drive, cloned OS, and installed it instead? Also, does switching from a 2.5" SSD on one SATA port to an M.2 SSD on another make a difference? I’d appreciate any guidance so I can have more games running at once. I’m planning to upgrade the drive anyway. Please keep updating me as I work through this.
