Error encountered while attempting to activate EXPO on X670E device.
Hello everyone, I just completed my first high-end build in a while, and everything is functioning properly except for AMD Expo. I’m using an ASUS ROG Strix X670E Gaming WiFi Mobo. My RAM kits are from GSkill—two 2x32 kits at 6000MHz. Initially, I attempted a single kit (2x32) in dual-channel mode as the manual suggested: A2 first, B2 second. This caused numerous memory error codes, just like with A1 and B1 setups. Eventually, only A1-A2 or B1-B2 configurations worked. AMD Expo would always force a safe mode boot, preventing me from using it. After some research, I noticed others had modified this series by using two dimms, so I upgraded to a different kit. Now I’m testing 4x32GB and 2x32GB RAM, but Expo still isn’t working. I’m not an expert, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here are my details: CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X; Mobo: Asus ROG Strix X670E-E; RAM: 2x32GB Gskill 6000MHz (F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR); Total GPU: 128GB; Main SSD: Corsair 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe; BIOS Version: 1905 x64; Built on: 02/05/2024. Currently stuck at 3600MHz RAM speed.
Operating a 3070ti with a Ryzen 7 7800x3d seems to be a motherboard problem. I prefer not to waste time troubleshooting, so I plan to test it with two CPUs this weekend and let you know the outcome.
DDR5 performance at 3600MHz is uncertain; the minimum speed is 4800MHz. Are you certain you're not operating at 7200MT/sec or higher? The MCLK runs at half the listed RAM speeds, as it's actually a 6000MT/sec system. The FCLK typically works between 1800-2000MHz, so it shouldn't be set to a direct 1:1 ratio with UCLK and MCLK. It should follow an AUTO:1:1 configuration.
I’d like to check if a single DIMM can operate at its standard speed. It seems likely it’s configured as 1:1:1. The FCLK varies between 1733MHz and 2200MHz, so the only plausible reason for AM5 to target 1800MHz would be if it wasn’t automatically set to AUTO:1:1. You might have already reset the UEFI, meaning you may need to manually enable AUTO:1:1 if it’s not already configured that way.
I'll give it another shot later, since I also struggled with two sticks.
