Hey there,

I've been working with Vegas Pro for more than a decade. Recently, I upgraded from the 14 version after getting a new graphics card. At first, I faced compatibility problems with my B580 and the 14 edition. I was looking for a version that supports Intel QSV to speed up my renders. I’ve never had this issue before with my older GPU in the 14 version. The trouble began after installing the new card.

Whenever I choose "Render As" and attempt to export my timeline as an Intel QSV MP4, I encounter a BSOD. Everything seems normal before the crash. In fact, most of my renders complete around 90% before the failure. I’ve enabled GPU Assisted Rendering, and the software recognizes my B580 card.

I reviewed the DMP file and found it stating that "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer," with the crash linked to dxgkrnl.sys.

I upgraded my GPU from an RX 590 and used DDU before installing the new card. I’m not using the latest driver, as it causes screen artifacts in certain cases. I’m still on the previous version, which is quite recent.

Encoding video with HandBrake using Intel QSV works perfectly. I’ve also finished renders in Davinci Resolve without any problems, and I can game in 2K and 4K smoothly. Several benchmarks have passed without issues, suggesting the problem is tied to Vegas Pro.

Interestingly, if I disable GPU Assisted Rendering and let the CPU handle the project, everything functions correctly. This points to a potential issue with my GPU or the use of Intel QSV for rendering.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you have a solution in mind? Given how much I rely on Vegas Pro for my editing workflow—offering features like disc image creation and Blu-ray burning—I’d really appreciate it.

EDIT: I want to clarify a few details in my post:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
- CPU cooler: Scythe Fuma 2
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Elite B540
- RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz
- Storage: 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus
- GPU: Intel Arc B580
- Power supply: EVGA 600 BR, 600W 80+ Bronze (about 6 years old)
- Case: Fractal Design Pop Air
- Operating system: Windows 10 Pro
- Monitor: HP 22er 1080p

Please let me know if this helps. Thanks!

I recently upgraded from Vegas Pro 14 after installing a new GPU. Did you use DDU to uninstall all GPU drivers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) in Safe Mode before replacing your GPU? You manually installed the newest driver from Intel's support site, for example by right-clicking the installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

When sharing troubleshooting threads, it's important to provide complete system details. Please include the following specifications:

CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:

Also mention the age of the PSU, its make and model, and the current BIOS version for your motherboard. I’ve also completed several benchmarks without problems, indicating the issue is likely tied to Vegas Pro.

One challenge with Intel is its relative newness compared to competitors, which may cause the problems described. Intel has faced criticism from reviewers, especially regarding its driver support, as it competes with AMD and Nvidia.
