If checking the game cache fails, you’ll need to remove it. I’d also clean up the Steam files and delete any borderland items after uninstalling to ensure everything is safe.

You're correct in your approach. Moving game files, deleting local content on Steam, and reinstalling should ideally only require downloading a portion of the game. However, if you're unsure or the process isn't working as expected, it might help to ensure you have another drive available and try again. Also, verifying the cache can sometimes resolve issues.
