I've faced similar issues while setting up my granddaddy's old PC. The blue screen with 'critical process died' kept appearing even after reinstalling files. Running the advanced options didn't help, and even using the command prompt with 'sfc scannow' completed but then hit a protection error. I've tried restoring from previous settings but nothing worked. It seems like a full Windows reinstall might be necessary at this point.

If the hard drive is readily available, you might take it out and connect it to another computer to recover valuable data, provided the files aren’t damaged. After that, perform a clean installation. If you successfully moved any files, you can restore them via a USB stick or similar device.

I'm assuming the hard drives in question are separate from your PC's drive, so they shouldn't interfere with it.

Ensure it doesn't affect your Windows setup by connecting it via a SATA cable directly to the motherboard. Open BIOS, boot from your standard installation drive, and locate your grandfather's drive. P.S. Thank you for your patience.
