You've set up Ubuntu GNOME on your Mac and everything seems to function normally until it freezes after about eight seconds, leaving a purple mark in the top-left corner. The OS appears to enter safe mode, but the issue persists. Could be a driver problem or a corrupted bootloader—checking the boot logs and updating drivers might help.

In 2010, the MacBook Pro did not have NVIDIA graphics cards. Today, it's more likely to be labeled as an NV50 (Tesla).
