You've set up Ubuntu GNOME on your Mac and everything seems to function normally until it freezes after about eight seconds, leaving a purple mark in the top-left corner. In 2010, the MacBook Pro did not have NVIDIA graphics cards. Today, it's more likely to be labeled as an NV50 (Tesla).
