It makes sense, but 1080 is an older card and might draw full power from the board. Modern cards could be different since they may not rely on board power. I think clarifying this with ASUS Rep would help.

We seem to share the same issue, though in my experience the problem emerged after a year of using the computer.

You're experiencing the same problem with your old PC, even after moving the tower. The D6 issue persists without any solution.

I have a 3080Ti on an E-ATX motherboard (Asus Rampage V Edition 10) in a Phanteks Evolv ATX case and am 99% certain this is a GPU connection issue. I always knew that this motherboard and case combo are not strictly compatible it had heard of other folks just leaving a couple of the mounting screws out and letting the mobo flex a little. With my old 1080Ti it was short enough to comfortably sit in the PCie slot securely but my 3080Ti is a couple of inches longer and now the flex in the mobo (where the case deflects it) is pushing on the bottom edge of the GPU causing it to not seat perfectly. The reason I’m confident that d6 is a GPU slot issue is that I never had any issues with my 1080Ti but now have intermittent issues whereby occasionally immediately following a reboot or a boot up (never during normal use) my monitor won’t power on, I get a d6 code and a warning light on the mobo next to VGA LED (p 1-17 of the manual). If I put the case on its side and reseat the GPU 95% of the time it cures the issue instantly. I’m running 64Gb ram and a Corsair 1000w PSU so I’m confident that there are no other culprits in play here. I’m going to upgrade to a slightly larger case and just need to bite the bullet on redoing my cable management which I slaved over for days. my CPU too has no discreet GPU so I’m stuck using the post code to troubleshoot…

I discovered a potential fix. The issue could be moving the video card out of the PC-E port. Gather all the fasteners securing the card to the case, then check if it starts up. I experienced a D6 error and noticed the case was bending the card so it wasn’t tightly held in the PCI-E slot.
