hi all, I recently got a new computer and i am facing an issue i cannot find any relevant info for. The PC : CPU: Intel 13900ks (Noctua cooler) MB : Asus Proart z790 Creator WIFI Memory : 4 x Kinston Fury Beast DDR5 KF556C36BBE-32 GPU : Nvidia 4090 FE PSU : SuperFlower Leandex 1600 Titanium SSD : 4 x Samsung 980 PRO (only 3 installed so far) I will try to detail the problem chronologically : Zero problems Day 1 (NO GPU) The PC was put together with 1 SSD - posting no problems I was still waiting for the GPU and extra NVMEs I didnt install even Windows at this point Zero problems Day 2 I installed Windows 11 I installed 2 more NVMEs and began downloading programs and games (Adobe Cloud and some small games) Zero Problems Day 3 I started playing some small games until the GPU arrives - mainly Dyson Sphere Program The ram runs on 4800MHZ Zero Problems Day 4 (not really day 4, but using it for chronological order) A week later the GPU arrives I installed the GPU and at the same time i enabled XMP to take full advantage of the Ram Sticks (yes in heinsight , i should have done them separately) This is where the problems began At first there was a constant stream of Blue Screens with different errors. At first there was some suspicion about the GPU drivers (nvidia studio drivers) - they got reinstalled. I disabled XMP and ram was running at 4800MHZ As this seemed not to be, i updated the Bios to Ver.0816 - this also didnt resolve the crashes A lot of Random Blue Screens Day 5 Since the computer was extremely unstable, i decided to reinstall windows again just in case. A lot of Random Blue Screens Day 6 The Asus Bios has a Mem Test installed on it, so i began running it and TA-DA there were errors A friend of mine (electronics technician) who helped me build the machine advice to try to run 2 by 2 the dims on the mem test 2 by 2 - no issues at all. Day 7 Since we didnt really trust the test that Asus put with the Bios, we switched to a proven one that he uses to test in his lab (memtest86+ v6.10 With that test the 4 dims did not report any errors (i am running each test minimum to 3 passes) 2 by 2 also no errors. Day 8 We began to suspect the version of the mem test so we switched to version 5.01 And what do you know ? 4 dims still give errors (mainly on test 8 and 9) 2 dims, no problem Day 9 At this point i began changing what im googling and here is where i figured out that there is no official support for 4 dimms from Asus (or Intel, i could not find any clear info on their statement) I changed the frequency from 4800mhz to 4000mhz based on suggestions i saw online, but with the 4 dims i still saw errors At the end of the day i switched to 3800mhz (according to my friend, this may be better since its the harnomic frequency of the base clock) After 3 passes on memtest86+ 5.01 i got only 1 error. Conclusion At this point the main suspect is the memory controller of the CPU, but unfortunately we cannot test it since im in a small country and very few companies have such part just lying around where we can see how they behave in different conditions. If any one had similar struggles or possibility to test i would love any kind of help here. Obviously i can exchange parts they are with warranty, but the point is the run the PC with what Asus and Intel actually advertises... I have to admit i was puzzled by how little info there is for such problem and it doesnt seem to be a problem just on this pc. Thanks a lot !
I'm not certain if Intel and Ryzen are identical, but I've heard Ryzen faces significant problems with 4 dimensions. It's possible it's the same company, particularly with larger capacity dimensions. I'd prefer to run 2 dimensions for DDR5 systems based on tests showing much better stability and speed with just 2 versus 4.
The two sticks is definitely a good choice. But I’d like to see it reach a capacity of 128.
