Error A9 indicates a problem during BIOS setup on the MSI Z97-G43.
Hello everyone, I own an MSI Z97-G43 and it’s working fine so far—just boots up normally through the EFI shell, though there’s no storage connected at the moment. When trying to enter BIOS (delete-key) or the boot selection menu (F11), I only see an A9 error in the lower right corner. Resetting the CMOS didn’t help, and there’s no documentation on these error codes beyond knowing that A9 is the AMI standard for "Start of Setup," which isn’t very useful. I left it on for a while, but nothing changed. The board is kept as simple as possible—just a USB keyboard, no PCIe devices, no storage, etc. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the BIOS back? I’m considering a reflash, but I’m worried about not being able to access the current BIOS settings.
To assist in identifying the board, use the small motherboard speaker to capture any beep codes. The codes are listed in my previous message. Are these the red and black gaming versions?
