I have an HX1000 Platinum psu. I'm wondering if it's permissible to link a 4-pin cable (not a 4+4 pin) to the 8-pin CPU port in the PSU and then connect it to the 4-pin EPS header on the motherboard? I understand it's fine to use the 4+4 cable from the PSU and route it through the motherboard to the 4-pin header. However, I'm curious if using just a 4-pin cable for only half of the 8-pin slot is also acceptable.

Hello there! Here’s the information you provided.
The PSU includes 2x8(4+4)pin EPS connectors. It’s important to connect the correct pinout by matching the PSU end to the cable, as the pinout isn’t visible on the PSU itself.
What is the make and model of your motherboard and the processor you’re using?

You're referring to the specific details you've shared. I understand you want me to focus only on the information you've given, excluding any mention of the 4+4 cables or the PSU features.

Where do you plan to find a cable with just four pins on the power supply side?
The physical clips won’t support it. In theory, if you have a cable with a connector that fits into the PCIE or CPU ports on the power supply and the wires are correctly connected to the motherboard, it should work.
This approach is quite risky unless you’re certain about the wiring. Without a way to clip onto the power supply side, there’s a chance the cable might come loose.

The HX1000 does not include a cable featuring only a single ATX 4 Pin connector. Would you like me to provide an image of the correct cable?

The cables included with the PSU are the only ones recommended for use, except for aftermarket options designed specifically for that exact PSU. There are no generic four-pin modular PSU to motherboard cables that fit any PSU.
