Epic Games installer shows major increases and drops in GPU usage across every game on the platform.
Previously GTA 5 performed well at full resolution with stable performance. Now it shows significant GPU and CPU fluctuations. I haven’t adjusted any settings, yet there are large drops and spikes in usage. RAM usage remains around 8GB out of 16GB, which is typical for me. Temperatures stay moderate—about 50-55°C during gameplay. The GPU clock speed changes noticeably. I’ve tried lower settings but the problem continues. Other games I own run smoothly at high settings, so it likely isn’t a hardware issue. I’m using the Epic Games Store version. My system specs include an AMD Ryzen 5 3600, RX 5500 XT, and other components. Anyone have any insights?
I also reinstalled and checked the game once more, but there was no improvement.
Have you attempted to reinstall the driver? If temperature and power aren't the problem and it's more of a recurring issue, it might be that a loop isn't functioning correctly and something resets when it hits a critical point.
I apologize should have noted that my first step was using the AMD cleanup tool, but it didn’t help. I repeated the process, updated to the latest driver, yet the problem persisted. I also reinstalled Windows 10 while preserving my files. It’s unclear if the issue stems from CPU limitations—30% usage seems low for GTA 5, yet the game fluctuates wildly between 0 and 120 FPS according to Radeon data, even though it’s supposed to stay at 75fps. The settings menus are also extremely laggy, which is quite unusual.
I just tested it and didn’t notice any improvement. I reinstalled the game twice. It seems like a problem with Epic Games, as I installed the Epic version of Rocket League and I’m seeing similar high GPU usage spikes and drops to low CPU levels, just like in GTA 5’s Epic build.
