: Envy X360 is breaking down.
I own this laptop for several years, and it has slipped off my lap a few times. There hasn’t been any major damage—no cracked screen, though the fan stopped working. Now the back is gradually opening more when I lift the lid. There are three screws on the back, and the one on the far left is missing. Can I fix this myself using an online guide for screw sizes? Or should I take it to a repair shop? If needed, what would be the cost at a store? Also, in the updated photo, the right-side hinge appears completely detached on the left side of the laptop’s seat.
The parts where screws are inserted are the issue. The inside of your laptop is made of plastic and, over time, from repeated opening and closing—plus impacts from the floor—it weakens these inserts. Simply replacing the screws won’t fix it; you should check the outer shells, cases, and hinge areas that hold the screen together. Ebay could be a helpful resource here.
You might also check HP part stores to find out the price of a complete new enclosure.
