I removed the card reader USB from my ASUS PC and it crashed. Now I see a boot screen saying "USB device detected over system". I attempted to enter setup during boot by pressing Del or F2, but setup doesn't start and the PC shuts down after 15 seconds. After replacing the CMOS battery, it didn't help. Why isn't setup starting? Could there be a short in my motherboard or USB?

I removed the card reader USB from my ASUS PC and it crashed. Including the model and SKU for your Asus prebuilt PC might help. Could you try reconnecting the card reader to see if it restores functionality? It’s possible there’s an issue with the motherboard or USB. Did you take it out while the system was powered on?

Is this the kind of message you're receiving?
Yes. You might have damaged USB header pins by not being careful when removing your card reader.
Please take a photo of your motherboard (showing the area where the card reader was connected) and share it here.

The message indicates the card reader isn't recognized in Windows, possibly due to a misplacement or incorrect slot. I attempted to retrieve it but the PC shut down. I'm considering restarting it to obtain the model number without risking damage. Attaching photos via my phone isn't possible at this time.

Obviously something got shorted out.
Remove card reader completely and
DO NOT
plug it into some random header.
I don't care about model numbers.
Show the photo.

Brought it in for repair, but the technician mentioned the USB is broken and likely can't be fixed. The motherboard is from the 10th generation and isn't available outside China anymore. I might have to get a new PC. I really liked my ASUS desktop and used it for video and music.
