Ensuring 13600k safe voltage for the VCore and a quick review of the upgrade steps.
Google shares some unusual information, and Reddit discussions are involved. My previous upgrade was several years ago, around 2014, when I got the 7600k. I managed to reach about 4.9GHz, though I settled for a more stable 4.8GHz. The maximum temperature reached was around 86°C. Recently, with a 13600k CPU, I achieved a speed of 5.6GHz at roughly 83°C during R23 tests. My main concern is the safe voltage range, including any adjustments or offsets. Currently, according to CPU-Z, mine fluctuates between 1,284V and 1.296V. I’ve heard it typically runs around 1.4V, which seems high. Coming from those days with the Z270 Asus Mobo, I’m not sure what settings I used. I’m trying to avoid any surprises when overclocking. Back then, people advised keeping the voltage below certain limits, and I followed that. Now, with this new chip, I’m planning to stick to similar guidelines. (I have some room for temperature improvements.) As a new model, it’s impressive how well it handled everything smoothly even at 50% load. I’m really pleased. Regarding the voltage settings, I need to clarify whether the right or left side of the Vcore is correct—should I set it accordingly? I’m also curious about what the actual voltage should be once I reboot into BIOS. What’s the true setting? All in all, I’m hoping for a clear guide on overclocking safely and choosing the right voltage.
Whatever you're looking for in terms of cooling performance. Intel 7 handles voltage well, making 1.5V suitable for extended use (they typically reach that level naturally). Above 1.25V under load usually prevents cooling unless you take drastic steps like turning off Hyperthreading or using liquid metal desoldering. Make sure to configure a solid LLC setting so the voltage regulation is reliable. This means idle voltage will be higher, but it drops significantly when under load. Medium seems to perform best, though I’d need to verify that.
Thanks for the response, I need to really understand what an LLC is. I plan to study it thoroughly.
I recall stock mine was near 1.4v, but I lowered clocks to 1.14v on oc.net where some folks talk about degradation at higher speeds like 1.28v. I’d prefer to keep it around 1.25 max since my cooler can’t take more than 1.2v at that frequency. That puts me comfortably in the 90s range, okay? Fine for gaming though.
