You're planning to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to a modern setup. Starting with just a hard drive is fine now. For smoother migration later, consider using separate partitions for Windows and your data. This way, you can move everything later without issues. Alternatively, purchasing a smaller SSD now could simplify the initial installation process.

Samsung offers a cloning tool, if that's your main inquiry.

Yes, that works! When you set up the OS on the blank hard drive, choose the advanced settings and build the partition yourself. Create a 120GB partition (CSmile and another for the remaining space (DSmile. Put the OS on C: with the 120GB allocation, and the main apps there. The rest goes to D:. After installing, once you have the SSD, simply transfer the 120GB partition onto it and remove it afterward. You can then fill the empty area in D: as needed.

Sure, but it's not flawless; having two partitions is much improved.

Is there anything wrong? I used to believe it performed excellently, especially since Samsung.

If your hard drive holds only 120GB, the minimum partition size required for Windows depends on your needs and system configuration. Generally, a typical minimum is around 20GB per partition, but you may need more based on software requirements or performance considerations.

It's not that simple. Moving the operating system from one drive to another isn't a straightforward process, and even if it works, other programs might behave unexpectedly.

It functions smoothly even if you don’t receive a Samsung drive. Clonezilla is straightforward, needs only the drives connected to your PC, and is completely free. I’ve tried it multiple times and it consistently works.
