Hello, I currently have a B450 AORUS M motherboard with a ryzen 5 2600 overclocked to 4.1 GHz and a Radeon RX 580 8GB. I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card and picked out a Radeon RX 6700XT, but due to the bad bottleneck (and the elden ring specs) I would also like to upgrade my cpu. I was thinking of the Ryzen 7 5800x or the ryzen 7 3800x [I'm not worried about temps but I don't know if they'll be compatible with my motherboard since I've read so many things that say yes and things that say no and I am now confused, and after spending all that money on the graphics card and cpu I won't really have to money for a new motherboard. I was hoping on some insight and hoping to get a clearer answer and lay my confusion to rest.

It’s important to refresh your motherboard BIOS to support newer processors. Based on the Motherboard Tier List, your board is in Tier E, which could limit power delivery to CPUs like Ryzen 7 and above. For better performance, consider upgrading to a Tier C or even Tier A board if feasible.

I’d choose 5600x. It matches the 3800x cost in many cases, works well with a single core, and only marginally lags in multi-core performance. It’s also a 65W component, making it compatible with nearly all motherboards.

It seemed like a solid choice for gaming, offering significant upgrades over 2600 while being much more affordable than the alternatives I considered.

Thanks a lot! I’m leaning toward a 5600x because it fits the 65 w range. I really value the list you found, and I’ll keep it in mind for any future upgrades for my friends and their builds.
