Hello, welcome to the forum! I’m really new here and not sure about the best way to post, but I’m trying to figure out this issue. I just got a 32GB Corsair RAM (16x2, 3200MHz) and when installing, I realized I needed to turn on XMP to get it running at that speed. However, when I tried to enable it, the system blocked me from accessing advanced BIOS settings, so I can’t activate XMP on my new RAM right now. After some research, I found out the XMP documentation is stored directly on the stick itself. If that’s correct, could I possibly install this RAM into someone else’s computer, enable XMP via their BIOS, and then transfer it to my own machine later? I’m not sure if this is the right approach, but I’m hoping it works out. Thanks for your help!

The XMP setting on the stick merely informs the BIOS about the RAM configuration, which means it won’t make any difference in your situation.

The XMP profile can reside directly on the memory chips, yet the motherboard remains in charge of determining the actual performance parameters. Activating XMP allows the board to fetch the profile from the sticks and operate according to those preset values.

For OEM setups, it's generally recommended to purchase JEDEC RAM rather than XMP RAM, as XMP RAM may not maintain its intended performance speed. If you provide the HP model or motherboard chipset, we can advise on suitable alternatives. Depending on your situation, replacing it might not be necessary unless you have the option to return the original unit.
