Hi, I'm trying to understand why my Windows 10 laptop is experiencing BOSD errors after some updates. It seems only my laptop is affected, while my desktop works fine. I'm curious about what might be causing these issues. According to the service center, around 5-10 updates fail, and they believe Windows tries to reinstall them but leaves behind corrupted data, which triggers BSODs. My question is: can I make the update process more reliable? Should I disable auto-updates completely or just skip updates altogether? Is there a way to fix the installation if it fails? If the update doesn't install properly, should I perform a clean install of that specific update? Thanks for your help!

You can configure it to refresh approximately 30 days after the release. This prevents automatic installation of unstable patches.

Buggy KB files may lead to problems on certain devices. Omitting necessary KB's can prevent future updates from working—ensure they don’t rely on other files. There’s corruption in your SoftwareDistribution folder. Halt the Windows update service, remove C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, then restart the update service. You can’t guarantee 100% success with Windows Updates; some require a reboot before others install. You can’t manually set updates in Windows 10. For full control, you need a SCCM server. Disabling Windows Update isn’t recommended for security. Besides resolving issues, monthly roll-ups add security improvements against current threats. Unpatched systems expose your computer and others on the same network to risks like recent SMB vulnerabilities and ransomware attacks.
