Hello, I purchased a GM Tech 32M PCI card for a project, but it doesn’t work properly. The card is outdated, yet I need it specifically. I’m using a new PCI board that comes with its own drivers, which now lets Windows recognize the card as storage. However, when I try to format it with standard tools, it reports the card is write-protected and refuses to proceed. There’s no visible switch like on SD cards, but some connectors look like they can be soldered. I’m unsure how to bypass this protection—should I solder parts, look for updated drivers, or try another method? Any advice would be appreciated.

Well there's a blast from the past! I haven't seen one of those in the wild in years. Are there any solder pads that look like they could be switch contacts on the other side of the board in this general area? It could also be these solder pads; the middle and right need to be bridged instead of the middle and left: (The arrow on the label could mean "move the switch this way" instead of "the switch is here".)

I've completed the soldering now and it functions properly. The initial attempt failed, but the second one succeeded. I can access the card via both MCE and Cardware. However, only raw read and write data are supported. Formatting it with Windows remains impossible. Storing multiple files or using formats other than .bin isn't feasible for the console I need. It's not ideal to be in this situation.
