It's an Asus X571 that stops working completely. When I connect it to power, I can shake it like a maraca and it functions properly.
That's completely wild. I'm wondering if there's some short happening. I'd contact customer support. I assume that the battery is pretty solid if you leave it unplugged and running. Like, hours of time? Also, have you tried pressing around on the chassis while it's unplugged? See if you can trigger it without motion?
