So to start, the games I’m trying to play function well on my desktop, but will run smoothly on Win10 with some adjustments. My Dell G7 has an integrated graphics card and an RTX 2070. I need to install older titles that perform well on the iGPU because attempts to use the 2070 in battery mode cause the CPU to throttle significantly—almost as if a Pentium 3 could beat it with a light jog. The main issue is that many classic games, such as Mercenaries 2 and KOTOR 1, behave badly on monitors with refresh rates above 60Hz, leading to texture glitches, gameplay errors, or complete crashes. Thanks to Dell’s design choices, the monitor’s refresh rate can’t be changed and stays fixed at 144Hz. I’m searching for solutions or workarounds that could help these problematic games without any per-game patches or mods.
I searched for caps options in the game configurations and forced the Nvidia control panel, but it didn’t resolve the issues. The games are still failing because of engine bugs that cause more than 60hz refresh rates.
