Hello everyone, last week my computer froze completely while playing games. I had to turn it off by pressing the power button briefly. After that, I couldn't restart it until I performed a CMOS reset on the motherboard (an Asus Rog Strix B550-E gaming). It functioned properly for several days. Now, over the past three days, my PC won't turn on unless I run another CMOS reset. I'm wondering if the issue might be related only to the CMOS battery, possibly affected by the freeze and the hard shutdown, or if there are deeper problems with the motherboard itself. Also, during the last CMOS reset, I accidentally did it while the power supply was still connected, and the PC started immediately after I shorted the pins. Thanks for your assistance.
CPU runs AMD 5600x with Corsair AIO, GPU uses Rtx3070ti, power supply is a Bequiet 750w. After turning on the PC and clearing CMOS, everything functions perfectly—no issues at all, all components seem working fine.
It might be a battery problem; consider switching it out. You can only attempt updating the BIOS on the board and observe the results.
It seems I adjusted the CPU fan monitoring because I have an AIO and turned off the audio monitoring. Before the issue started, I had some DOCP profiles enabled, but I didn’t reactivate them in the past three days—yet I still needed to clear CMOS. After saving those changes in the BIOS, the PC restarts normally and loads the OS. If I power it down again, I have to reset the CMOS and tweak these small settings, but everything works afterward.
I can't discuss the CMOS issue further. Could you clarify what you're referring to by turning off the fan monitoring? It might be the same unless it's integrated into the pump header. Updated the BIOS to the latest version, but the issue persists. The system restarts smoothly after the update, yet turning off the PC leaves it stuck unless I reset the CMOS again. For fan monitoring, the AIO fans aren’t connected to the CPU_Fan header, so after clearing the CMOS, the system reports it can’t detect the fan and prompts me to disable that feature in the BIOS. I’ll likely replace the CMOS battery soon to test if it resolves the problem. It’s not a major concern, but it’s still confusing. Thanks for the advice!
