Ensure 7900 XTX runs at full fan capacity continuously.
When I power on my machine the GPU fans immediately reach maximum speed and remain there continuously. This behavior occurs in the BIOS settings, during Windows startup, and when booting into safe mode. Tools like MSI Afterburner, AMD Adrenalin, and an open hardware monitor all indicate the fans are spinning at zero RPM. I adjusted the fan curve, applied undervolting, and switched off/on zero RPM controls without any effect. I also updated the BIOS and ran DDU followed by reinstalling drivers, yet the problem persists. At this stage, considering a repair with RMA seems appropriate. Your system is brand new, the GPU is fresh out of the box (XFX Speedster 7900), CPU is Ryzen 9 7900, motherboard MPG X670E, Wi-Fi, and BIOS version is 7D70v15.
RMA isn't helpful here. If you purchased it, simply return it or trade it in at the store where you bought it if you received it directly. RMA can be quite frustrating to handle. Regarding the thermals, the fan speed is a concern, but I'm not sure if they're increasing or decreasing.
I’d simply return the GPU. Three possibilities come to mind that might explain this problem: the fan cables are loosely connected, the vBIOS is damaged and isn’t managing the fans correctly, or the fan control hardware was faulty during assembly. The slightly loose cable might be visible from the side, but you’d likely need to remove the cooler to reach it and face challenges getting a warranty claim afterward. If the vBIOS is faulty, you could try updating it from TechPowerUp or switching the dual BIOS switch (assuming it’s a dual card), though a wrong flash could complicate a return.
Thermals are all good, it's a pretty cool ~30 when the engine is off.
I attempted to flip the bios switch, but it didn’t work. Probably not a good idea to handle the cooler, so I might just give it back.
