Enhancing the RAM on the MSI 970A-G46 board with an AMD FX-630 6-core processor
I own an MSI 970A-G46 board paired with an AMD FX-630 6-core processor. My setup has 1 PNY 8GB RAM installed and I'm attempting to expand it to 32GB. I purchased four Kingston 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 HyperX Fury Blue modules but haven't been able to boot any operating system. Is there a compatibility problem? What RAM type would be recommended?
What is the model number of your DRAM? The MC in your CPU could benefit from an overclock on the CPU for 32GB or to adjust the MC voltage, consider increasing the CPU/NB voltage to 1.25.
Did you purchase four distinct sticks or a set with four identical ones? Please test one stick at a time, placing each in its respective slot. So far, no more than one stick has been installed simultaneously.
If a particular stick fails to boot while the others succeed, that stick is defective. If none of the sticks boot in any slot, the slot is faulty.
Should neither condition be met, combine the sticks until all slots are filled. Begin with the blue slots, then proceed to the black slots. If any pair of sticks doesn’t work well together, you’ve identified a bad stick.

Are you purchasing four individual sticks or a set with four identical ones? Please test each stick separately in each slot, ensuring only one stick is installed at a time. Avoid having more than one stick installed simultaneously. If any stick fails to boot while others succeed, it indicates a faulty stick. If none of the sticks boot in any slot, then the slot is defective. When neither of these scenarios occurs, try combining the sticks until all slots are filled. Begin by filling the blue slots, followed by the black ones. If certain pairs of sticks don't work well together, you may have an incompatible stick. I recently attempted this process but encountered a blank black screen after installing the new rams and restarting the machine. Could there be a BIOS setting adjustment needed? My current RAM supports up to 1333Mhz, while the new ones are 1866Mhz. It seems there might be compatibility issues with my CPU or motherboard despite matching specs.
Does the latest RAM include ECC? If yes, that could be the issue.
Try shutting down the system, unplugging it, holding the power button for three seconds to clear any residual power, then removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard for five minutes to reset CMOS. After five minutes, reassemble everything and repeat the RAM insertion steps as before.
Weberdarren97 asks about ECC in the new RAM and suggests a reset procedure. He mentions trying to fix the issue by power cycling the system and resetting CMOS. He also notes that the problem persists even when using BIOS settings and questions whether the ECC feature is actually present in the new Kingston HX318C1F/8 RAM.
Does this seem familiar? If yes, its reaction time is quite slow and could lead to compatibility problems. Would you consider using this memory?
